未発表の製品が「遅れる」？

［12.9 インチ iPad のモックアップと 13 インチ MacBook Air：MacRumors］

アップルの iPad イベントまで一週間を切ったというのにウワサの動きはスローだ。

サプライヤー筋からのリーク写真が次から次へと相次いだ先月の iPhone イベントとは大違いだ。

そんな中で登場したのが 12.9 インチ iPad の遅延説。

WSJ がサプライヤー筋からの情報として、iPhone 6 Plus の需要に応じきれないため、当初１２月に予定されていた次期大型 iPad の生産が来年初めまで延期されるというもの。

12.9 インチの大型 iPad について最初に伝えたのはブルームバーグだ。来年第１四半期に製造開始することを検討中というものだった。

未発表のアップル製品が「遅れる」という報道がしばしばなされる。いったいどういうことだろうか。そんな製品が出るとか、ましてや何時出るなんてアップルが約束したことはないのに・・・

そもそも大型 iPad の生産開始計画は 2015 年初めまではなかったのだからね。

だから次回のアップルイベントでは 12.9 インチの大型 iPad はなさそう・・・

12.9 インチ大型 iPad にどの程度信憑性があるのか分からない。

しかし２つの大型モデルが出た iPhone 6/ 6 Plus のことを考えると必ずしも否定できないところが悩ましい。

マイクロソフトの Surface Pro 3 に似たものが出ることより、むしろ iPhone 6 Plus が iPad mini の位置付けにどう影響してくるかということの方に筆者としては関心があるのだが・・・

iPad イベントは１０月１６日

複数のソースが Code/red に語ったところによれば、アップルの次なるイベントは１０月１６日（木） — １０月２１日ではない — に開催されるという。予想される見出しは：最新の iPad ラインアップ、それに 9to5Mac が今週初めに伝えた新しい iMac。さらには OS X Yosemite も。

Sources tell Code/red the company will hold its next special event on Thursday, Oct. 16 — not the 21st. Headlining the gathering: The latest updates to its iPad line, along with those new iMacs that 9to5Mac told us about earlier this week. Also: OS X Yosemite.

アップルの９月イベントが目を見張るような壮観だったのに比べると、今回はもっとリラックスしたものになるだろう。会場もアップル本社の Town Hall Auditorium で、例の不思議な建造物もなければ、奇妙な一曲だけのコンサートもなしだ。アップルのコメントは得られなかった。

Given the breadth and spectacle of Apple’s September event, this one will be a more laid-back affair held at the company’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, without any mysterious white structures and awkward one-song concerts. Apple declined comment.

iPhone 6 の予想ラインアップ

３つのモデルを提供するのがこれまでのアップルの iPhone 戦略だった。

１）今年のモデルで最新技術のもの
２）昨年のモデルで 100 ドル安いもの
３）一昨年のモデルでぎりぎりのストレージ（２年契約で無料、アンロックモデルよりは 200 ドル安い）

今年はどうなるだろうか？

John Gruber が The Talk Show（８月２９日）で iPhone 6 のラインアップについて語っている。

先日のスクリーンサイズについての議論を敷衍した２時間をこえる長時間ものだが、ラインアップについては［１時間 58 分］あたりから。

今年の iPhone ラインアップは：

１）トップモデル — 4.7 インチ iPhone 6 と 5.5 インチ iPhone 6L（？）の２モデル、5.5 インチモデルは 100 ドル高い

２）中位モデル — iPhone 5S、100 ドル安い

３）下位モデル — iPhone 5C、２年縛りで無料

アップルのウェアラブルはすぐには出荷されない

ウェアラブルのスクープをものにした John Paczkowski が、肝心の出荷はだいぶ先になるといっている。

９月９日にはアップルが新しいウェアラブルデバイスを出すのだろうか？ 実際にそれを手にするまでにはしばらく時間がかかりそうだ。その情報を知る立場にあるソース（複数）によれば、市販されるまでには数か月かかるだろうという。ソースのひとりは「すぐには出荷されないだろう」という。じゃいつアップルはみんなが待ちこがれているウェアラブルを出すのだろうか？ それは不明だ。自分の考えではクリスマスシーズンがすぎるまでは市販されないだろうと思う。2015 年初期と考えた方がいいかも・・・

そんなに前広にアップルが公表する理由は何だろうか？ John Gruber の考えが興味深い。

オリジナル iPhone のときと同じ

本当だとしたら何故だろう？ オリジナル iPhone が事前に発表されたのと同じような理由ではないかと考える。そうしなければ世界中の規制当局への申請の段階でリークしてしまうだろう。それに、新しいカテゴリーの製品につきもののオズボーン効果の心配をする必要もなくなる。

If true, why? I’m guessing something similar to why they pre-announced the original iPhone — otherwise it would leak through regulatory filings with various governments around the world. Plus, they have no worries about the Osborne Effect with a new product category.

９月９日には新しいウェアラブルも？

John Paczkowski が９月９日の iPhone イベントについて新たな情報を提供している。

新しいウェアラブルも？

２つの次世代 iPhone が９月９日に発表されることは前にお知らせしたが、併せて新しいウェアラブルもひとつ発表される予定であることが分かった。（「ジョーク」じゃないよ、Gruber さん。）予想どおりなら新しいデバイスは、アップルの健康・フィットネスプラットフォーム HealthKit や、接続機器をコントロールする HomeKit を活用したものになるハズ。もっともどの程度ないしはどんな形になるかは不明。

[…] Apple now plans to unveil a new wearable alongside the two next-generation iPhones we told you the company will debut on September 9. (Funny “joke,” Gruber.) The new device will, predictably, make good use of Apple’s HealthKit health and fitness platform. It will also — predictably — make good use of HomeKit, the company’s new framework for controlling connected devices — though it’s not clear how broadly or in what way.

プレスへの招待状はいつ発出されてもおかしくないよね。以前述べた１０月のイベントがどうなるかはっきりしないが、今のところまだその予定ではないかと思う。
