期待した決算発表（Conference Call）だったが、タブレットに関してはアップルの口からめぼしい話は出なかった。
すべては２７日水曜日のお楽しみというわけ・・・
決算発表に先立って出されたプレスリリースで、Steve Jobs は次のように述べている。

「今年発表を予定している新製品群は非常に強力だ。重要な新製品をまず今週発表するが、われわれはとてもワクワクしている。」
“The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.”

決算発表（2009年10～12月期）そのものは過去最高で、不況にもかかわらず売上高、純利益とも四半期ベースで過去最高を記録した。
しかしタブレットについては完全に肩すかしだった。

なお、独占関係が切れるのではとのウワサもある中で、アップルが AT&T の肩を持つような発言をしたことは注目される。

Tim Cook：AT&T は重要なパートナーだ。初代 iPhone を発表する前から一緒に仕事をしている。世界のどのキャリアより彼らが携帯ブロードバンドの帯域を有していることに注目すべきだ。iPhone ユーザーは多くの地域においてすばらしい体験をしていると考えている。
2:23 – Tim: AT&T is a great partner. Working with them since before announcing the first iPhone. Important to remember that they had more mobile broadband usage than any other carrier in the world. In the vast majority of locations, we think iphone customers are having a great experience.
Tim Cook：AT&T はご存知のとおり複数の都市で少なからぬ問題があることを認めているが、その修正プランも持っている。私自身も確認したところだが、AT&T はこれらの問題を十分解決できると信じている。

これは最近聞いている話と合致する。少なくともアップルは当面米国では AT&T と組むというものだ。タブレットの 3G バージョンは AT&T オンリーで登場するのではないか。それが間違いだったら、AT&T と Verizon の両方。
This tone gibes with what I’ve been hearing lately, which is that Apple is sticking with AT&T in the U.S. for now. I expect the 3G version of The Tablet to debut as AT&T-exclusive; if I’m wrong, I expect it to debut on both AT&T and Verizon.

とうとうSteve Jobsが公式に”重要な新製品”とのたまいましたか。
いままで海のものとも山のものともしれぬタブレットのうわさだけで、充分ヒートアップしていたfanboysとしては、たいへん興奮しますね。しかも”joy of surprise on Wed”ときた。こんな予告ホームランみたいなことをいわれると、発表前からわん曲空間にはいってしまう。
みたところ、”重要な新製品”はとてつもない多機能デバイスのようですが、それをApple一流のsimplicityでどうくるんでくるかが見どころです。個人的には基本のUIさえすばらしければそれだけでいいーーー各人が必要な機能はad hocで追加できればいいかと。
