待望の発表時期が決まり（３月１日または２日）、フォームファクタが今のものと変わらない（NY タイムズ）となると、新 iPad 発表イベントのサプライズは何だろうか。

気になる記事がある。「次期イベントの最大のサプライズは価格設定かもしれない」と・・・

価格が最大のサプライズ

ハードウェアがせいぜいインクリメンタルにしかよくならないとすると、iPad 3 発表の最大の関心事は価格設定になるかもしれない。アップルが今後とも iPad 2 を継続するつもりなら尚更そうだ、と Stephen Baker［NPD Group のアナリスト］はいう。

Aside from hardware improvements expected to be evolutionary at best, pricing could be one of the more interesting revelations coming out of an iPad 3 launch, especially if Apple decides to continue selling the iPad 2, according to NPD Group Analyst Stephen Baker.

「ほとんどのアナリストは今後ともアップルが価格を下げて iPad 2 の販売を継続するものと期待している」と彼はいう。

“Most analysts expect that Apple will keep the iPad 2 in the market at a lower price,” he told MacNewsWorld.

「現在 iPad が売られている 500 ドルより低い価格帯の需要がある。時期が熟したと見ればアップルはアグレッシブになるだろう。」

“There’s demand at the price points below (US)$500, which is what Apple is selling the iPad for now,” he continued. “Apple is nothing if not aggressive to extend their product line when they think the time is right.”

iPhone 4S 導入時に iPhone 4 を残してうまく成功したことを考えれば、アップルは iPad でも同じ戦術を繰り返したいという誘惑に駆られるだろう。「3GS や 4 のときと同じように、古い製品を売ってマーケットシェアを伸ばせるのなら、それはアップルにとってすばらしいことだ」と Ken Dulaney［Gartner のモバイル担当副社長］はいう。

・Retina ディスプレイ

・LTE は多分ない

かなりハッキリと言い切っているのが印象的だ。

高価な Retina ディスプレイにもかかわらず価格は 500 ドル据え置き、iPad 2 を 100 ドル下げたものがローエンドモデルということか・・・

LTE についてはよく分からないとしながらも、つぎのように述べていることが興味深い。［11 分頃から］

新 iPad に LTE を搭載することは可能だが、今年 iPhone に搭載することはないと考えるので、よけいな期待をさせないために iPad にも搭載しない、と
