進化するアップルタブレットのウワサ

WSJ のスクープのおかげで、タブレットのウワサは何でもありになった。

その後の話題を２つほど・・・

ひとつはタブレットの部品コスト推計、もうひとつは搭載チップの話だ。

iPhone をベースにタブレットのコストを推計する

Jeffrey Fidacaro（Susquehanna Financial のアナリスト）が明らかにしたものだが、iSuppli の 16GB iPhone 3GS の製造コスト推計をベースにしたところがミソだ。

部品コストはたったの 347 ドル

［iSuppli が推計した 16GB iPhone 3GS のコスト］180 ドルをベースに、タブレットの大型スクリーン化や大型バッテリー化などのコスト増を織り込んで 347 ドルという数字を得たものだ。その詳細は別添のとおり。

Using that a starting point, Fidacaro threw in the extra cost of a larger screen, bigger battery etc. and came out with a total of $347, as detailed in the schedule below the fold.

つかみの数字

Atom プロセッサ、1.8 インチ HDD を前提にしているので、部品構成如何によっては大きく変化する。

しかし WSJ　が引用した 1000 ドルだって、「四半期の出荷台数 100 万ないし 150 万台、国内販売価格（ASP）を 1000 ドル、純利益のマージンを 22% と控え目に見積もると」という大まかな話だから、つかみの数字としてはそれほど荒唐無稽ではないかもしれない。

［つかみで約 400 ドルだとして、有名なアップルの 25% マージンを乗せたとしても 500 ドルだから、販売コストを加えても十分 600～800 ドルの範囲にはいると考えるのは甘過ぎか・・・］

さてもうひとつはタブレットに搭載するチップの話だ。

インテルはアウト

３月発売予定のタブレットの製造にとりかかる時期が近づいてきたため、アップルは搭載すべきパーツの最終決定を迫られている。アップルの設計・製造パートナーの話をもとにすると、残念ながらインテルは食い込めなかったと、Northeast Securities のアナリスト Ashok Kumar はいう。

With production time of its Tablet approaching, Apple has been making its final decisions on which components will go into the device, which is due out in March. Unfortunately for Intel, it didn’t make the cut, says Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar, based on conversations with Apple’s design manufacturing partners.

PA Semi のチップを採用

アップルの製造計画に詳しいという他のアナリストによれば、インテルの新しい Atom プロセッサも検討はされていたが、最終的には PA Semi が開発したチップが採用されたという。アップルがチップ工場の PA Semi を買収したのは２年前のことだった。

There has been speculation that Intel’s new generation of Atom chips was in the running for the slot, but Apple ultimately chose a processor developed by P A Semi, a chip shop Apple acquired two years ago, according to another analyst familiar with the so-called build plan.

いずれもアナリストの話だから、そのつもりで聞き置くとしても、ウワサの具体性はそれなりに進化しているように思える。

それにしても PA Semi の話がやっと出てきたところは、AppleInsider のスクープが現実性を帯びてきたということか・・・
