アップルの株主総会はこんな感じ・・・

たかが一会社の株主総会に過ぎないのに、業界紙だけでなく一流メディアまで大騒ぎで取り上げた。

例年と違って Jobs は不在、役員再任以外にはこれといった話題もなかったのに、取り上げたメディアの数だけは大変なものだった。

そんな中で Forbes の Brian Caulfield が雰囲気をよく伝えているように思える。

ハッピー・バースデイ

アップルの投資家も、消費者も、みんな Jobs が大好きだ。とても冷静になんてなれない。だから、アップルの株主総会（アップルの経営陣や役員総出で、ノーベル賞受賞者の元副社長 Al Gore の顔もあった）で、Dan という名前のアップルユーザーがマイクをとって、火曜日は Jobs の誕生日にあたるといった途端、部屋中のみんなが立ち上がり、姿を見せないアップルのリーダーに対して大声でハッピー・バースデイを歌いはじめたのだ。

Apple consumers and investors love Jobs, and they never play it cool. So before the annual meeting with Apple’s management team and a good chunk of its board of directors–including former Vice President and Nobel Prize winner Al Gore–wrapped up, an Apple user and shareholder named Dan took the mike to note it was Jobs’ birthday Tuesday. Within moments, everyone in the room stood up and belted out “Happy Birthday” to Apple’s absent leader.

小さな街のタウンミーティング

みんなの気持ちは必ず Jobs に伝えると Cook は応えた。冷静な話はそれぐらいだ。アップルの株主総会は、小さな街（たとえばバークレイのような）のタウンミーティングによく似ている。金銭上の問題はどうでもいい。むしろ熱心な活動家、怒れる変人やミュータント、特別な目立ちたがり屋、そういった連中が活躍する場なのだ。ちゃんとした会社ならやるべきことは簡単だ。ヤツらに喋らせろ。丁寧に頬笑み返せ。気違いどもに変なことをさせるな！

Cook said he would be sure to pass the message on to Jobs. So much for playing it cool. Not that there’s much of a chance of that. Shareholder meetings at Apple are a lot like city council meetings in, say, Berkeley, Calif. Forget about dollars and cents; meetings like this are a prime opportunity for earnest activists, angry cranks, mutants and the overly concerned to bask in some attention. For public companies, the game is simple: Let them talk, smile politely and don’t let the freaks shake anything loose.
