Happy Birthday, Steve!

54 才の誕生日を迎えた Steve Jobs にお祝いのメッセージ・・・

アップル CEO の重責から開放されてエンジョイしていると信じたいが、Steve Jobs は今日［米国時間2月24日］で 54 才になった。

Though still (hopefully) enjoying his hiatus from full-time CEO duty at Apple, Steve Jobs turns 54 years young today.

Steve に何かプレゼントしたいところだが、アップルやピクサーを経営し、ディズニーの最大株主であるひとに何を上げていいか迷ってしまう。ガルフストリーム V ジェット機がいいって？ もう持ってるよ。ピクサーの映画 Wall-E はオスカーをもらったばかりだし、「世界最速の」ウェブブラウザも出たばかりだ。

I really wanted to get Steve a present, but what do you get a guy who runs Apple, runs Pixar, and is the biggest shareholder of Disney? A Gulfstream V jet? Well, he already has one of those. Pixar just got an Oscar for Wall-E, and Apple just shipped the “fastest” Web browser on the market.

そこで Steve のためにいくつか願い事をしたい。

So Steve, here are some birthday wishes for you this year:

・健康：誰だって病気にはなりたくない。でもみんながキミの健康問題で大騒ぎするのにはウンザリだ。それより、かの伝説的なキーノートをぜひ写真に撮りたいものだ。

• Better health: No one likes being sick, but frankly I’m just tired of people making such a big deal over your health. Plus, I want to get a chance to photograph one of your legendary Stevenotes™.

・ベジタリアン用のおいしいチーズ：実際ベジタリアンのためのチーズたるやひどいもんだ。全然とろっと美味しくない。月に人間を送れる世の中だというのに、ベジタリアン用のとろっとしたチーズさえ作ることができない。健康ダイエットにも、美味しいオイシいチーズは必要だ。

• Good vegan cheese: Let’s face it, most vegan cheese is terrible and doesn’t melt. We can put on man on the moon, but someone producing a good tasting, meltable vegan cheese has escaped the power of man. Making a healthy dietary choice shouldn’t have to preclude delicious, delicious cheese.

・MacBook の小型モデル：500 ドル以下じゃなくてもいい。ネットブックという名前でなくてもいい。でもサイズという点からいえば、あの 12 インチの PowerBook G4 はほぼ完成の域に近づいていたじゃないか。アルミのブロックから削り出して、NVIDIA 9400M を放り込み、もし必要なら FireWire 400 をやめにしたっていい。フルサイズのキーボードさえ付けてくれればいいのだ。

• The ability to build a more compact MacBook model: It doesn’t have to be under $500 and it definitely does not need to be called a netbook. But the 12″ PowerBook G4 nearly approached perfection from a size standpoint. Carve one out of a block of aluminum, slap in an NVIDIA 9400M, and ditch the FW400 if you have to, just make sure it has a full-size keyboard.

どうやらこれって自分のための願い事だね。でも Steve、ほんとにお誕生日おめでとう。これからもずっとずっとお元気で・・・

Okay, those are really just wishes for my birthday. But really, Steve, Happy Birthday. And here’s to many more in the future.
